About the Artists

Marianne Osiel, StonyPoint (Musician / Performer).  Marianne found her voice as a singer/songwriter from her classical roots, where she was trained on oboe, flute, piano, and voice.  After an evolutionary personal and spiritual shift, she created her first CD, Strange Girl, which won critical acclaim, featuring Marianne as songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and string arranger.  Since then, she has created Full Of Wholes, a solo acoustic singer/songwriter album, and How The Light Gets In,  an all-improvisational instrumental CD that features Marianne on oboe and English horn in duet with four notable keyboardists from the New York area.  Marianne also performed as a backup "sideman" (oboe, slide guitar, melodica, vocals) with such artists as John Hall, Nanci Griffith, Rachel Sage, and Jackson Browne, among others.

Jennie Chien, Nyack (curator, multimedia sculptor), has created a Buddhist-inspired altar for the twentieth anniversary of her father's passing. She received the Rockland County Executive Award for Visual Artist in 2009. She has won over 25 awards for design and art and has an MBA from Stanford Business School.

Patricia Hickman, Haverstraw (sculptor), whose signature material is translucent animal gut, shows an encased circle of gekko mummies, reminding us of the beauty and ephemeral nature of life and time. Pat has exhibited internationally and received many awards and distinctions. She is a Professor Emeritus of Art at the University of Hawai'i and from 1990-2006 was Chair of the Fiber Program.

Ned Harris, New City (photographer, graphic artist), shows a grouping of photographic interpretations of Mexico's Day of the Dead folk art, along with the actual pieces. He is also showing unique candle photographs, created on a scanner. Ned is a well-known figure in Rockland. He is an artist, curator, graphic designer, and photographer.

Daniel Mack, Warwick (Rustic furniture designer, object maker, author, teacher) explores the forms, textures and deformities of the trees to re-present and re-member them. Daniel will be presenting a large group of imaginal artifacts he names Anima, which are made from water-worn bark, carved to reveal human-like features. His work is in many museums' permanent collections.

John Badik, Haverstraw (ceramic sculptor), has constructed outdoor stone cairns, and ceramic tree memorials for his father and grandmother for this show. John is an expert raku artist as well as in stoneware. He has been making exhuberant ceramic art for over 25 years.

Marlene Krumm-Sanders, Piermont (ceramic sculptor), creates gorgeously illustrative multi-media pieces, many of them with her father as the Man in the Hat. Marlene is a professional illustrator and self-taught ceramicist, whose work clearly shows her unique illustrative hand.

Patrice Gallwey Grant, Nyack (mixed-media sculptor) is showing her Bride and Widow chairs and constructing a family altar. She works in response to the energy from natural and found materials. Patrice graduated from SVA and is an anti-racism activist. She conducts workshops in art and cultural awareness that allow for and call upon spiritual healing.
